You are invited to a
Community Workshop
to provide input about
Innovative Housing Regulations
in Kirkland

April 30th, 7:00 p.m.
Peter Kirk Room
City Hall, 123 5th Avenue

Why? The purpose of the workshop is to hear from citizens about the direction of the innovative housing provisions in the city. In January of this year, the Kirkland City Council concluded that, based on the positive results of two projects built under the Innovative Housing Demonstration program, the City should develop permanent regulations to allow innovative housing types throughout the city.

What is “Innovative Housing”? The term “innovative housing” in this case refers to housing types, such as cottages, “compact single family”, carriage houses, and duplex/triplex housing types that would be located within existing single family neighborhoods.

What does Innovative Housing look like? Citizens may be interested in taking a look at the two Innovative Housing Demonstration Projects that have been completed in Kirkland. Both developments are located in the North Rose Hill neighborhood:

Danielson Grove: NE 105th/128th Avenue NE
16 homes, up to 1,500 square feet
(detached garages)

Kirkland Bungalows: NE 97th, between 130th and 132nd Avenue NE
15 homes, up to 1,300 square feet
(plus garage, to 1,500 sq. ft.)

Next Steps:

Citizen input from this workshop will be collected and presented to the Planning Commission at a meeting in May, when draft regulations are to be discussed. The Planning Commission will hold several study sessions on the topic before the public hearing on draft code amendments, tentatively scheduled for July. A recommendation from the Planning Commission is expected to be presented to the City Council in late summer.
