Are you wondering what is happening at our Houghton intersection?

Come hear Denise Perdo, City Project Engineer, explain the “remodel” of the intersection to improve traffic congestion. She and Kari Page, Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator will answer your questions.

In addition, two more city representatives will give short presentations about current city projects. Heidi Sowell, City Water Quality Planner, will discuss the downtown Kirkland Pump Station Project and the City Manager, Kurt Triplett, will talk about the possibility of a Transportation Benefit District.

Your new Board of Directors, elected at the May meeting consists of:
Jill Keeney – Chairperson, Heiki Grodecki – Vice Chairperson, Dawn Bremner – Secretary, Malia Karlinsky – Treasurer, Donna Neil – At-Large. Nabila Lacey is Webmaster and Anna Rising, your Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods (KAN) representative.

Our Annual Everest Neighborhood Picnic was a success, as always! We had perfect weather and delicious food contributions from the around 50 neighbors who attended. All enjoyed the grilled hamburgers, salmon burgers, veggie burgers and hot dogs. Many participants in the water balloon toss came away a little damp but with big smiles on their faces. Younger children fished the Ol’ Fishing Hole dry of all its prizes.

Thanks to the incoming freshman class of Northwest University for cleaning up the site the day prior to the picnic as part of their pre-term community service. The weeding and cutting back of brush was appreciated.

ARE YOU PREPARED IN CASE DISASTER STRIKES?
Come to the timely meeting about emergency preparedness and safety
featuring representatives from Puget Sound Energy, Kirkland Fire Department and the City of Kirkland. Retired PSE lineman, Greg Parkinson, will
give us tips to deal with natural gas and high voltage safety. Helen
Ahrens-Byington, Deputy fire Chief and Emergency Manager of the City of
Kirkland, will share about fire safety and emergency preparedness. Stephanie Day, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for the Fire
and Building Departments of the City of Kirkland, will tell us how to prepare for emergencies as a neighborhood. Time will be provided for your
questions and Greg will end the program with an electrified model of high
voltage situations for those who want to stay.
EVEREST NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION ELECTIONS
We will also be voting on our new Everest Neighborhood
Association Board of Directors at this meeting. The following
people are running for these positions:

Our project to replace the grandstands at Everest Park ‘A’ Field is underway. The contractor is scheduled to be done on or before February 20.

Demo of the existing structures is almost complete. Lumber material will be reclaimed and reused. Some lumber will be used to form footings for new structures. Concrete material will be ground up and recycled.
